Freshly served from Germaican Records comes the new "Pharao Riddim" with title tune by famous german Reggae group "SEEED" who also produced this riddim and follow-ups by such stars as Sizzla Kalonji, Tanja Stephens etc.
Letīs check what Seeed and the others got prepared for us...

Another selection from the Germaican hit-factory, this time produced by Enuff, the frontman of Seeed, who also produced the Frogass selection in 2001. Germaican is going hyper-active in the last half year, releasing quality selections, and this is no exception. You can still recognize Enuff's handwriting from 'Frogass', but this riddim is far more advanced. So many elements in the version, and everything fits perfect. The hollow percussion, the deep drums, the Oriental-esque instrument break (a tribute to the current Indian craze), combined with Seeed horns and the sizzling synths that were already used in 'Frogass'. Even the dj vocal scratches, a rather controversial element when it comes to dancehall riddims, are fitting perfectly. A heavyweight mid-tempo bouncer, reflecting the current riddim trends but at the same time staying individual.

Only a few tunes pon the riddim, good ones. The first tune I heard was the Sizzla one, pretty good vocals but unfortunately layed on a kinda 'deconstructed' version which literally goes nowhere. I was like 'when the intro is done and the main part is started?', but there was nothing but the pounding bass drum and the horns. Fortunately, the other tunes are layed on the 'normal' version which pretty much rocks, as I stated before. Tanya delivers a pretty nice tune here as well, back on track after a long pause and perhaps sounding even better than back in the days. Her laid-back flow fits the athmosphere of the bouncy riddim perfectly. Degree's tune is okay, but it lacks something outstanding that made his big tunes memorable for years. Nice tune still. Dr. Ring-Ding is back in full effect. After the extremely weak German tune over the 'Cure' riddim, he switches to Patois again and delivers a supreme tune reflecting the situation at the Gulf in a smart way, not just going like 'Bun America!' but reasoning about the whole thing in a humorous and at the same time serious way. Perhaps one of his best lyrics ever. And finally, we have Seeed, coming up with the title tune for their up-coming album. Though 'Music Monks' is not a pull-up-guarantee like 'Dickes B', it's a pretty decent tune with strong lyrics, especially the German part.

Small, but nice, selection. Let's hope Germaican launches a second round on this one. You can order this selection, along with other Germaican records here.
