"Bandulero - Forward to Victory #3"... If you already heard the first tapes i think we didnīt really have to do a review as even the old tape run here at a pretty good rotation. Nevertheless, you want a review - you shall get a review..
Bandulero Soundsystem - Forward To Victory #3
Bandulero Soundsystem - Forward To Victory #3
Bandulero Sound is no unknown name anymore... After hitting out two mixtapes, one more sucessfull than the other, everybody was waiting for the part 3 - and here it is ! Forward To Victory - Part 3 brings you the the expected huge amount of tunes, plus more dubplates than ever.

The intro alone is already a killer. Instead of, as in the last two tapes, just letting some artist speak, the Bandulero guys grabbed some old spanish songs mentioning Bandolero (a bandolero is a kinda Spanish/Latin badman) and made a radio-tuning style medley out of them, each song snippet indirectly praising the sound. After that the A-side goes on with a solid bashment selection, without any dubplates (except the Ward21 medley), but carrying the most popular riddims of the past year, like Bollywood, Matrial Arts, Rice & Peas, Glue, Bad Kalic, Diwali and others, skillfully put together in a mix. I don't really understand though what Capleton's Buss It pon the 3 years old Doorsmal riddim does in this new tunes row, but the tune is anyway just great, so I guess it's just fine to listen to it again. The choice of the tunes is well-balanced, you hear big hits alongside less known tunes, like Fat Bastard's funny title-tune for the Rice & Peas riddim. The dancehall side ends with a furious outro by Pancho.

Following the concept of the 1st Bandulero tape, the B-side is starting with some old digital riddims and continue with strictly roots. Here the Bandulero crew shows the world their new skill - to cut quality foundation plates. Sure, the previous Bandulero tapes included some foundation dubs as well, but it was more occasionally, and the tapes were more focussing on the juggling skills. In the third chapter's B-side Bandulero crew drops some heavyweight foundation exclusives, showing that they are more and more ready to step into the clash thing and not only rock the bashments. John Holt, Alton Ellis (with son!) and Glen Washington are only a few names in the steadily growing Bandulero foundation dubbasket. The dubplates are wrapped up into a skillfull set of roots 45s, featuring classical riddims like Rock Me or Heaven's Door alongside their recent remakes. Some of the featured tunes are perhaps too cheesy, but that's a matter of taste. The crew shows again what I've called intelligent mixing in the previous review, bringing up different versions of the same tune in one mix, and giving the listener the possibility to compare original and coverversions.

All in all, the most anticipated reggae/dancehall mixtape in Germany proves to fulfill the expectations. You are highly adviced to get this tape at Mikrokosmos while it's not sold out. Gunfinger in the air for the upcoming badman sound outta Berlin !
