Phonostars - Colonia Bay Experience

Here we go with a mixtape out of cologne, presenting the hottest bashment tunes and mighty mixing skills.
A tape that may not be overlooked. Darius, selector of Cologne's Lobster Sound, and Max, Dj and saxophonist of the sadly dissolved Lords Op D'r Rhing, deliver a mixtape loaded with tunes to the max - over 100 of them in 90 minutes. Mixtapes of this length are not a usual thing these days, so if you need some hot dancehall vibes to shorten a long bustrip, you'll definetely have to grab this one...

There are no roots tunes in here this time, only hard dancehall vibes. The Phonostars collective gathered on this mix the hottest tunes of the past 1-2 years, including big riddims like Diwali and 8-Ball alongside overlooked ones like the Golden Piece. Some nice hiphop remixes go along them aswell, especially check out the mix on the Whats Luv beat at the start of the B-side, including Sizzla, Gentleman and some others. And as it happens that Max is mainly a hiphop deejay, he spiced up the whole mix with decent deejay cuts (or scratches if you like, so the dancehall massive won't be confused) here and there. I was very sceptical when I heard of it first, but they are fitting and convinced me. When it comes to the choice of tunes, Phonostars made a good balance between rasta and badman tunes, not too much or too less of the one or the other. You heard nuff Sizzla, Capleton or Anthony B here, but also loads of Bounty, TOK, Elephant and the likes. And with the amount of tunes for the 1,5 hours, the tunes aren't played out too long, so the mix never gets boring.

If you want to get 90mins full of fresh dancehall vibes, the tape is exactly what you seek. Nothing negative to say about it... Solid cassette, nice hardpaper cover, detailed tracklist. The only small minus is that on some points the mastering is too loud, but therefor the tape is sold for an unbeatable price - only 3 Euro. Get it at the Raggasuffin Shop before it's too late !
