Finally the highly anticipated 5th album of far too often underrated Roots-Reggae Star Prezident Brown hit the stores and the Prez continues to drop more "Words of Encouragement"!
Phanthomas lent it an ear and was quite surprised of some combinations he did with Jamaican Stars as well as German Reggae Musicians like Xavier Naidoo, Gentleman and even more or less HipHop-oriented Producer DJ Tomekk..

Finally in stores now arrived the new CD from Roots Star Prezident Brown accompanied by a special Collectors Double-Vinyl-Edition packed with SongBooklet, Photocollection limited to 1000 copies.

For all who already know Jamaican based Artiste Prezident Brown itīs a safe deal to pick that record, cos he always stood for high quality Rasta-oriented Reggae in his very own style since the mid 80īs producing with such legends as Jack Ruby, Courtney Cole, Barry O'Hare and Bobby Digital.

Being a straight up Dancehall-Fan myself i took the record to review a little prejudiced but my expectations didnīt get fulfilled in ANY way. This record is an overall-quality release that contains a timeless favourite tune for all Reggaelovers that goes straight into head and feet as well.

Supporting the Rastavibe since ages and turning Rasta after the death and through the influence of his fatherfigure Jack Ruby you wonīt find any kinda Slackness or Gun-Lyrics but a good compilation of easy and deepthought conscious lyrics as well.
The classic "Conscious Genre" is represented by such tunes as "Blessed with Power", "Revolutionary", "Oh La La", "Tell it like it is", "Ancient of days" and others spiced up with three very nice Nyabinghi Introīs.

But as mentioned before, Prezident Brown takes an allaround tour through reggae with "Honey nuh cry" and "Sunshine" that come in a little more Ska or Dub alike and therefore rise the overall tempo of the record a little bit that is more or less slowtempo within the other songs.

Outstanding songs - at least for me - are for sure the title tune "Generation Next" picking up 60/70īs Soultheme from Staple Singersī "Iīll take you there" and William De Vaughnīs 1974 adaption of "Be thankful for what you got". Quite some of the elder listeners may recall "Digginī the scene with a gangsta lean..", that comes to a very good contemporary reggae adaption.

Most interesting for the german massive at least may be the cooperations with artistes such as Soul/RnB-Singer Xavier Naidoo on "Together" who normally doesnīt perform many songs in english language and the coop with Patrice in "Messengers R us", both convincing tunes that for sure donīt have to hide behind Jamaican Productions. Iīm sorry to say that the coop-tune "Priority Jam" with Gentleman is a little bit on the downside in my eyes compared to the other duets performed on the record. This is for sure not due to weak performance, but this tune begins to turn a little boring after listening to it several times..
As far as i know the Bonus Track with DJ Tomekk was already pre-released but in fact is surprisingly good, as Tomekk doesnīt have an all too good reputation producing Reggae-Music amongst the "hardcore reggae fans".

All tunes considered finally, Prezident Brown presents a very nice record with "Generation Next" scoring with about 8 outta 10 points, that will for sure have a special place in my collection.
