The sound clash industry received unprecedented success and media attention this year. However, due to the withdrawal of many selectors/sound systems from the clash arena, at times the clash industry seemed dormant. So, Irish and Chin, Inc. decided to wake things up a bit with the launch of
World Clash Weekend. "
The Greatest Clash on Earth" has become even greater, as sound clash fans can now experience an action-packed weekend of clash events including
World Clash (plus a female clash) and the
45 Shoot Out at the Amazura Entertainment Complex in Queens, New York. During Columbus Day weekend, over sixteen selectors/sound systems will battle in front of thousands of clash fans.
From Saturday, October 9 to Sunday, October 10, World Clash Weekend will set a new standard for the clash industry.

"
We really wanted to give patrons the highest level of sound clash entertainment for a moderate price", says Chin of Irish and Chin, Inc. "
Additionally, after hearing the concerns of clash fans over the past couple of years, we decided to increase the number of participating sounds rather than hire a celebrity host."
World Clash will turn up the heat with an intense
female clash, replacing the standard early warm up by a juggling sound. Several leading female sound systems will clash for a title. As the sub-industry of female clash sounds is on the rise, Irish and Chin, Inc. believed that the World Clash stage would be a perfect place for them to show their skills. All of the participating sounds possess the same fire as their male counterparts, yet they are often overlooked. Their great selecting skills and complete grasp of the sound clash culture will make this first-time spectacular a special treat. Get ready, as these leading ladies take center stage.
Following the female clash, the main event will open. Hosted by internationally recognized selector
Tony Matterhorn and
Squeeze of Link Up Media, World Clash will feature a diverse group of contenders including
Black Kat (defending champion),
Ricky Trooper,
Freddy,
One Love,
Klassique,
Young Hawk and
LP. The opponents will make their way to the Big Apple to defend their honor on the famous world clash stage, which has been known to make or break a selector/sound system’s career. The excitement is brewing, as this event is often considered the single most important clash of the year. The winner of this event earns the bragging rights to the World Clash Title and clout in the international clash arena. World Clash will be a landmark affair; history will be made and mini-battles will surely erupt.
Black Kat, the reigning clash champion (
World Clash, U.K. Cup Clash, Death Before Dishonor) is confident that they will once again be victorious. Black Kat's participation in hundreds of clashes during their career gives them the confidence of winners. This summer, Black Kat, brought their fire and energy to Athens, Greece, where they performed at a stellar dancehall concert celebrating
Jamaica’s Olympic Team. They say that a cat has nine lives. Let's see if Black Kat proves this saying correct.
World Clash 2004
For the first time ever, former lead selectors of
Kilamanjaro will face off on the World Clash stage.
Freddy, fresh off the heels of an impressive run on Kilamanjaro, will use the World Clash stage as the launching pad of his solo career. The stage has been kind to Freddy before, as it served as the exact place that Freddy led Kilamanjaro to an unforgettable victory in 2000, just one year after Kilamanjaro (then led by Trooper) lost to Mighty Crown. Incredibly, Freddy will face
Ricky Trooper, who secured the first World Clash victory and first Kilamanjaro victory at the event in 1998. Trooper, who went solo after the 1999 loss, still commands the mic like know one else, constantly evoking big forwards from the audience. Clash fans are anxiously awaiting this historical showdown between Freddy and Trooper, as this time; neither have the ammunition of top shelf Kilamanjaro dubs.
Also, for the first time ever at World Clash, two
European sounds are slated to share the stage. Most sound clash fans are familiar with
One Love, the high-energy patois speaking Italian sound system. Boasting an impressive catalogue of top-of-the line foundation dubs, One Love placed third at World Clash 2003. Their great performance secured them the respect of the audience and clash fans throughout the world.
Klassique, who hails from London, England, secured their rights to a World Clash slot by winning
The UK Rumble. Although Klassique did not place at the
U.K. Cup Clash, only fate will determine if their confidence and respectable rack of DJ dubplates will earn them a World Clash victory. May the best European sound system please step up.
Finally,
two New York sounds will share the world clash stage for the first time in the event’s history.
Young Hawk (Bronx), the winner of the
U.S. Rumble, has been on the New York clash scene for quite some time. Jamie, Young Hawk's extremely confident lead selector, will strive to replicate his memorable victory from the
U.S. Rumble. Meanwhile,
LP (Brooklyn) brings over 15 years of experience to the battlefield. Competing against nearly every top sound in the industry, LP boasts the knowledge necessary to succeed and plenty of specials. In the midst of World Clash, LP and Young Hawk will fight to be the World Clash champion and more specifically, "
The King of New York".
World Clash 2004
After an intense battle at
World Clash 2004, the excitement continues on Sunday, October 10. Fans must regain their strength and energy for Part II of the weekend, the
4th 45 Shoot Out, hosted by
Irie Jam Radio. This event is the perfect vehicle of exposing the raw talents of selectors/sound systems, as 45 records and one 5-minute round of dubplates can be played. At the 45 Shoot Out, a top pick by clash fans, the selectors/sound systems can not be shielded by the ever so present dubplates.
Mighty Crown, the reigning champion, will defend their honor against a notable line-up of sounds including
Fire Links,
Matsimela,
Madd Squadd,
Nico Bam Bam,
One Love,
Jazzy T and
Black Reaction. The
4th 45 Shoot Out marks the first time that Mighty Crown will face off against Fire Links. The
45 Shoot Out will certainly serve as an intense battlefield, and critical component of
World Clash Weekend.
"
World Clash has a guaranteed hardcore audience of thousands", says Chin. "
It will serve as the ideal platform for the rising sounds and female sound systems to display their talents, and hopefully gain respect from worldwide clash fans."
The
World Clash Award Show will take place during the
45 Shoot Out. During the show, awards will be given to the artists and sound systems, who are high achievers in the clash industry. The awards, based on dubplate sales and popularity within the hardcore arena, are an ideal way of recognizing the leaders in the industry.
Irish and Chin, Inc. are leaders in the promotion and production of premiere sound clash and dancehall events. Their debut of the legendary World Clash in 1998 sent shockwaves through the sound clash industry. What started as an event designed to revitalize the clash industry in New York quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. Following the success of World Clash, Irish and Chin, Inc., launched other high profile events including Death Before Dishonor, 45 Shoot Out, U.S. Rumble and many others. In 2004,
Death Before Dishonor achieved unparalleled success for the sound clash industry. The event, co-sponsored by
Puma and
VP Records enabled a sound system (Black Kat) to travel to the Olympics alongside
Jamaica’s Olympic Team, and perform at a concert honoring the team and dancehall music’s success over the year.
