As we had a large amount of incoming promotion material to review this month, we do not feel able to post a single article for each short review any more. Deeper reviews will still appear as an own article, shortreviews will be sorted after label/distributor and month.
So for this month we got two nice releases in the "
Independant" Category, namely
The Solution with their second album "
Lovely Life" and something that didnīt really fit into our concept on first sight but prove as a great release:
Audrey Gordon with her strongly spiritual influenced Gospel/Reggae album "
...Still Waiting". Read on for more info on the releases and snippets.

Audrey Gordon is from jamaican origin and decided to move to Canada in 1990. Around 1992 she was baptized and entered the Church of God, Seventh Day. Since then she performed at a good number of large Gospel events and played together with many known artists. On her new album "
...Still Waiting" she assembled 15 plus 2 bonus tunes all with a spiritual influence played over Dub and Roots riddims. Although I donīt share such a deep religious background, just know little about Gospel in general yet and more or less come from 90īs digital/bogle, this album completely overwhelmed me with niceness and very good lyrics and their interpretations. The combination of soft reggae elements and the accompanying praises take reggae music to a totally new level of itīs own, i personally have never heard before. This versatile album includes reggae/dub interpretations from "Knocking on Heavens Door" as well as other unique pieces and should not miss in any collection for sure!

"
Lovely Life" is the second longplayer from the Roots/Rock/Reggae band consisting of 9 members from the Netherlands and Germany. The members play the whole range of roots reggae, all a bit dubby and including instruments such as Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Percussion and Guitars but also Didgeridooīs and a great set of horns here and there. The band can convince over the whole album, which is nicely engineered and mixed. Musically oriented towards Bob Marley, Aswad and the likes, they also pick up rock riffs and the before mentioned Didgeridoo while thematically covering topics such as "
Praise the Father", "
No Political Solution", "
Lovely Life" and "
Babylon" amongst others.
Honestly there is really nothing bad to say about the whole album. In fact taking into consideration that itīs completely produced without any record label behind them and distributed on their own, itīs a serious production overall that comes along with a professional cover, full color cd-print and a well done multi-language website.
So itīs classy in any cased, but iīm still a bit biased tough. Iīm sure that
The Solution would play out large on any live festival and iīd also recommend taking their album into closer consideration if you like reggae music of this kind. But it just ainīt my cup of tea somehow.
