The thrill is on, as leading sound systems will battle for the ultimate bragging rights on Easter Monday in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Horns, whistles, torches, and the roar of excited sound clash fans will infiltrate Pier 1 on March 28, 2005, when Death Before Dishonor 5 "Jamaica’s World Clash" makes a triumphant return. The monumental competition will feature top-of-the-line sound systems including the defending champion Black Kat, Bass Odyssey, Tony Matterhorn, Freddy (formerly of Kilamanjaro), Mighty Crown (Japan) and One Love (Italy).

In the essence of the sound system’s rich Jamaican history, Death Before Dishonor 5 will converge talented competitors for a friendly, yet no-bars-held sound clash. The event is the ideal way of showcasing the talents of sound systems, the foundation of Jamaican music.

"We are extremely pleased with Death Before Dishonor 5’s strong line-up", says Chin of Irish and Chin, Inc., the event’s producer. "We believe that die hard clash fans will be a part of an unforgettable sound clash, while experiencing an important facet of Jamaican culture".
Death Before Dishonor 5 will surely attract thousands of sound clash fans from all over the world to Montego, Bay. The epic battle is sponsored by powerhouse Jamaican media outlets including CVM, RETV, Hype TV, X-News and Irie FM.
"We felt that joining forces with Jamaican media would enable fans throughout the island to be a part of this classic sound clash", says Chin.
Recently, sound systems have ventured into once unthinkable territories. From appearances in countries through out the world to music production, this year’s participating sounds have an impressive resume and track record. Overall, these qualities will make Death Before Dishonor 5 too close to call.
Last year, Black Kat seized the Death Before Dishonor title. Their win sent shockwaves through the sound clash industry. To date, Black Kat has won more international sound clash titles than any other sound system. Their victories include World Clash 2003, Death Before Dishonor 4, UK Cup Clash 2004 and World Clash 2004. All of Jamaica will get to see if Black Kat can retain their title when they face talented competitors including two past winners, Bass Odyssey and Tony Matterhorn.
The overall popularity of the sound clash industry has increased over the past year, securing the attention of international media and countless opportunities for sound systems. Death Before Dishonor 4, which was sponsored by Puma and VP Records, attracted thousands of sound clash fans to Pier 1. They flocked to witness Black Kat fearlessly claim the Death Before Dishonor 4 title, which enabled the sound to travel to the Summer Olympics in Greece alongside Jamaica’s Olympic team. Additionally, the sound recorded a mix cd of Reggae Gold, VP Records long running compilation.
Death Before Dishonor has truly prospered since its humble beginnings in 2001. The first clash, which took place in Trelawny, featured elite members of the sound clash industry including David Rodigan (England), Tony Matterhorn (United States), Mighty Crown (Japan) and homegrown Bass Odyssey. This signature clash marked the re-birth of Jamaica’s sound clash industry. Due to the event’s popularity, the clash was permanently moved to the spacious Pier 1 in 2002.
Through extensive promotions and productions, Irish and Chin, Inc. has emerged as a leader in the sound clash and dancehall industries. In addition to Death Before Dishonor, Irish and Chin’s events include World Clash (New York), 45 Shoot Out (New York), U.S. Rumble (United States), Rumors of War (Trinidad and Tobago) and many dancehall bashments, concerts and tours.
