SPECTACULAR
Spectacular a Boboshanti Warrior (born January 26th, 1976 in Kingston Jamaica):
Set to create a lasting impression in the global music scene is the firebrand chanter, Spectacular. As his name suggests, this Rastafarian, reggae troubadour is one impressive and overpowering chanter, who has chosen to adopt the stance as a representative of the poor and dispossessed. His music is filling with biting social commentary and he makes no bones about trampeling down "babylon system".
Like so many of Reggae music´s prolific hit-makers, Spectacular is a product of the ghetto. He hails from the Kencot area of Kingston and was educated at the Maxfield Park Primary and Norman Manley High schools. "
I have always wanted to sing from my youth days. This is a inborn thing until it became a tool for Jah and I", the staunch Rastafari warrior explains.
"
It was on the roadside, one man beat him chest and we as youth just built up a vibe. From there it was on to the studios to hang out after school." In his own words that was how the young man tried to gain a foothold in the music arena. He would hang out at the corner with his brethren and, typical of many Jamaican´s poor neighbourhoods, a stage show of sorts would evolve.
It was from the street corner that he graduated to start hanging out at the Penthouse recording facility, after school. In 1993, he made his first major stage performance after he had passed an audition for the Yard and Broad promoted,
StarWave 93, at Fort Clarence. It was in 1996 however that his first recording, "
I Love This Girl", on the Chop Chop label, was released.
At this time the boboshanti flagbearer is burning fire on the Jamaican airwaves with the singles "
Melody In Your Voice" on the "
Mumma Prem Prem" rhythm for the Gargamel label, "
Push On Though", "
Who Hail The Man" an "
Love & Joy" produced by veteran engineer
"Soljie" Hamilton and
Dean Frazier.
With these shots and more in his musical arsenal, Spectacular is slated to change the way the lovers of reggae music think as the millennium beckons.
This artist is very serious about his career. And realizes that he has been given the honour of playing a role bearer of the tidings of the omnipotent one: "
It is a mission and not career. Doing the music within the love and joy within our heart. We are only working for Jah." Spectacular, who is one of eight children takes his roles seriously and feels within himself that rastafari is embedded within his quest for musical success, "
Rasta and music is the perfect combination. Bob Marley is rasta and he is the king of the music. Not to put anyone else but Rastafari is my guiding light", a philosophical Spectacular explains.
Spectacular is one of the five pronged rastafari collection of artistes dubbed the "
Apostels of Aksum", who is managed by FFrench Production.
