A Trip to Greece.. 2nd Rastavibes Festival

Reclaim from Bulletproof Soundsystem, Zwickau, GER played in Greece on the 2. Rastavibe Festival some time ago and wrote a little review about a country that´s little known about in connection with reggae if you put the big Puma-Event at recent Olympics aside. In addition he also did a small Interview with the promoters and asked them a bit about the greek scene.

Even if Greece is not accounted as one of the leading reggae nations, it hosts a steadily growing scene. The Promoters Kosta and Stephane invited for the 2. Rastavibe Festival 2004 from 9th-11th July in Asprovalta and more than 3500 people from Greece and all over Europe followed their call.

Stefanatty meets Prof. Skank opened up with a Live Dub gig and Bashfire Soundsystem and Bulletproof Sound gave the dancehall massive some additional heat on the first day.

Locomondo, One Drop, Global Vibe, United Sounds and Anna Mystic & Ras Styler Sound did the first acts on the big livestage with Mad Professor as the first highlight (Who also produces a good amount of Greece´s Reggae Productions!), followed by Asian Dub Foundation who played the Massive until the early morning hours.

Sunday was packed again with such niceness as King Shiloh Soundsystem, Soulfire, Atiko, Crew C, T.H.C. Soundsystem and the Bak Brothers Sound and found a brilliant conclusion with Culture finally on stage.

Promoters Stephane & Kostas
Promoters Stephane & Kostas
Bulletproof: Tell us a bit about Greece´s Reggae Scene!
Kostas: We have a small, but very vivid Reggae-Scene here in Greece. There are actually 8 active Band like Soulfire (the eldest and bestknown Crew in Greece), One Dop, Locomondo, Atiko Minus etc.

Bulletproof:This year, the festival rapidly grew and there were already more than double coming to Aspovalta compared to last year..
Kostas: Rastavibe Festival was born to represent Reggae, Dancehall and Dub in Greece. In addition to that, everything became quite a bit more international this year..

Bulletproof: What are your plans for next years event?
Kostas: Even more international artists and to contract more guest for our festival. Eventually, the festival will also last longer, maybe up to 4 days. For our fifth birthday we finally plan to have about 60% audience from all Europe and 40% Greeks..
Stephane: We have a nice beach here in Asprovalta and guaranteed sunshine, the right circumstances for a nice reggae festival, so watch out fi 3rd Rastavibe Festival 2005!

Bulletproof: We wish you all the best fulfilling your plans, maybe we´re going to see again next year!
